With a hydraulic steering system you have to expect that the steering wheel can move slightly left and right compared to the engine, even if the wheel itself is locked. This is normal, because the hydraulic system is not a mechanical lock: the oil can compress a little, the hoses flex, and the valves allow microscopic internal leakage. Because of this, the engine can slowly turn during transport. With a cable steering system this does not happen, because the cable and the mechanical linkage hold the engine completely fixed, so it stays straight even while towing. What makes it more confusing is that nobody mentions this anywhere – neither the sellers nor the buyers talk about it – even though it is an important characteristic of hydraulic steering. Anyone installing a hydraulic system should be aware of this, and if they want the engine to stay perfectly straight during transport, they will need an additional mechanical engine lock. The bleed screws on hydraulic steering systems are made of weak plastic, and if you turn the wheel all the way to the stop, the caps can crack. I had to replace mine with metal ones because one of the plastic caps split at the top. The steering is indeed lighter compared to a cable system. I also bought a steering lock that fixes the engine during transport, because without it you simply can’t tow the boat safely. I’m still waiting for the package, so I don’t have any real‑world experience with it yet.

Product was garbage, zero customer service and product was defect from factory and they did not honor their 30-day warranty. But what do you expect from Chinese junk?

Installed on my 2026 Mercury 150HP as my rack and pinon steering was very stiff. Instructions are terrible so I had to reference Youtube / Baystar manual for missing parts. Anyways got it on and bled the system fully and was working great the first 5 times out... Now its leaking from the seal on the one side. Wishing I paid the extra and bought the Baystar kit. Reached out to see if they will replace the cylinder with a new one so we shall see.

Bonjour, J'ai commandé ce produit et l'ai reçu rapidement. Par contre, ce produit est stipulé comme pouvant être utilisé avec un moteur jusqu'à 90 cv hors le mien est est 80 cv (BF 80 Honda) et la puissance de ce système hydraulique est très limite. Je ressent comme des crans lorsque je tourne la barre en navigation à vitesse normale. Lors des manœuvres de port cela peut aller mais le reste du temps c'est compliqué et cette direction est relativement dur. J'ai fait confiance au descriptif et si j'avais été mieux informé, je pense que j'aurai opter pour le modèle au-dessus. Je sui donc déçu et ne conseil pas ce produit vu c'est capacités. 2025 Yamaha 70, they said i need this model, shit leaks.. ready to throw away

Ordered the 300 HP power steering kit to install on my boat. Week later it shows up everything looked quality enough. Spent an hour installing everything to the directions, went to bleed the system wheel goes all the way one way, won’t turn the other… tried a few things to figure it out, then eventually the whole steering system just went into free spin both directions no leaks, hydraulic unit not turning, motor not moving. Contacted the company send a video of it malfunctioning and unsure whether the problem lay in the steering unit, the lines or ram itself I offered to send it all back and requested a new kit. Get email a couple days later FINALLY, blah blah blah “we’re sorry for the malfunction, your replacement is on its way” GREAT THANK YOU! Waited TWO WEEKS to get the delivery of “replacement kit” instead it finally shows up all it was was the steering unit…one piece of the puzzle. Installed it because figured why not let’s take a shot in the dark here. I’ll let you figure out if that fixed the problem, now I’m three weeks into waiting just to drive my damn boat because of this. Should have just bought a sea star and been on the water 2 weeks ago.
