This is an excellent kit but my experience has been painful to say the least. My issues: 1. Instructions are appalling and written in typical Chinese English. As a result, what should have been a relatively easy install took 3 times longer than it should as some things ended up being trial and error. I am mechanically experienced having done much more complicated work. 2. Tech support virtually non existent. Replies are prompt but it is almost like speaking with a BOT: (i) Asked question regarding how much hydraulic oil the unit takes for a first fill. Tech support responded telling me what type of oil to use. Asked again, pointing out that they had not answered the question asked. Same response. Finally on the third attempt I received an answer telling me that I needed 2L. Ended up only needing 1L. (ii) Compression fitting snapped during install. Asked tech support of the type and spec /thread count etc. Couldn't give me a reply. Didn't even know which part I was referring to despite a clear explanation. I ran around town going to all specialty hydraulic stores within an hour's drive. Noone could match the part. Ended up heading to marine mechanic and guessed that it was a Seastar copy. Finally received this part at a cost of $47. Two weeks after commissioning and running the boat with new steering , tech support finally replied stating that they would send me replacement fittings. Great that they did this but a frustrating experience. Received new parts 6 weeks after purchase. So, I'm complaining a bit here as all of the above was avoidable and cost me heaps in terms of time and effort. On the plus side, the unit performs very well -steering has improved considerably. It's not finger touch but it's not far off that either. A very worthy upgrade.

Product works great. Fairly easy to install. Only problem is they don’t tell what type of hydraulic fluid you need to use. Called the company for support and never did get a straight answer just hydraulic steering fluid. Only problem with that is there are a few different types. Some oil based and some mineral oil based.

The steering on my Ranger boat seized and ripped apart, so I decided to retrofit it with hydraulic. Vevor was the least expensive option. To remove all of the old system took a long time, considering 30 years of corrosion. To install the new system took maybe 4 hours. I had two minor issues on installation; 1) The arms did not reach far enough to bolt to the cylinder shafts, so I took a 3-pound hammer and bent them further. A $500 kit, so no turning back now. Next, the flare nut that was included had stripped out, so I used the original brass that I had. The strength and quality of the nut it is questionable. Other than that, everything else installed smoothly, and I had it out on the water just a few hours ago.

J'ai reçu les deux pièces qui possède le support des joints,suite au fuites,Un côté rentre très bien,et l'autre rentre pas mes rentre a l'envers voir photos 3 , je pense que le joint a un sens et est monté a l'envers photo 2 , donc il me faudrait une nouvelle pièce voir photos

Le produit tout juste installé fonctionne bien. Ça a l’air de la bonne qualité. Par contre il n’est pas compatible avec un zodiac medline 500 ça touche la coque lorsqu’on trim. Il a fallu découper la coque et faire une niche. Ensuite pas mal d’éléments ne sont pas indiqués dans la doc (couplé de serrage, positionnement des tuyaux) et les rondelles à placer à l’arrière du moteur ne rentrent pas si la coque fait 1cm d’épaisseur. Rien de grave mais faut être bricoleur !

With a hydraulic steering system you have to expect that the steering wheel can move slightly left and right compared to the engine, even if the wheel itself is locked. This is normal, because the hydraulic system is not a mechanical lock: the oil can compress a little, the hoses flex, and the valves allow microscopic internal leakage. Because of this, the engine can slowly turn during transport. With a cable steering system this does not happen, because the cable and the mechanical linkage hold the engine completely fixed, so it stays straight even while towing. What makes it more confusing is that nobody mentions this anywhere – neither the sellers nor the buyers talk about it – even though it is an important characteristic of hydraulic steering. Anyone installing a hydraulic system should be aware of this, and if they want the engine to stay perfectly straight during transport, they will need an additional mechanical engine lock. The bleed screws on hydraulic steering systems are made of weak plastic, and if you turn the wheel all the way to the stop, the caps can crack. I had to replace mine with metal ones because one of the plastic caps split at the top. The steering is indeed lighter compared to a cable system. I also bought a steering lock that fixes the engine during transport, because without it you simply can’t tow the boat safely. I’m still waiting for the package, so I don’t have any real‑world experience with it yet.

For context, I purchased this unit in April of 2025 with the intent of installing it myself. I was low on time and had it professionally installed in April of 2026, shortly after the warranty period. I have had nothing but trouble with it. Approximately three weeks after installation, I took it to the local river to launch only to find that I did not have any steering. The wheel would spin freely. Luckily, I checked prior to launch. I hauled it directly back to the installer. They thought it was the steering hub so I purchased a new one and paid for the installation. I used it twice since then and recently noticed staining on my driveway and an oil slick when it rained. I just tested it again and the wheel spins freely with no steering. Back to the installer it goes as I suspect it is the rear cylinder assembly that is leaking. . To be fair, the installer told me he had installed many of the Vevor units and did not see this type of problem. I guess I am the lucky one. That said, I would recommend that anyone who purchases this, install it immediately and check it frequently during the warranty period.

Helm started to leak after 5 use in the water. Contacted customer support as I purchased the warranty and still waiting for a response. Be careful !!!!

J'attends toujours la réponse pour savoir quelle huile utiliser. Dans la doc technique il est indiqué de l'huile de qualité 10 où 15. Celà ne veut rien dire. Il me faut la spécification de l'huile. Merci de votre retour

Beim Hydraulikzylinder die Dichtung defekt und extrem schwierig zu reparieren. Der Service will das Beste aber kommen nicht zum Ende .
